Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
I'm trying to find more about Captain Charles Robert George Douglas who was killed in The Mutiny in Delhi on 11 May 1857; about his father Major Robert Sholto Douglas and his daughter Louisa Marguerite Anne (born Delhi 1852) who married Colonel Frank Willan and their descendends (son Frank Godfrey 1878-1957; son Robert Hugh 1882-..?.., whose son Martin Stuart Willan died in France 25/05/1940)...

Absolutely right, Wilfried. That murder in Dehli has taught me a lot about how stagecoach services operated in and from London! Just from tracking back the Willan family introduced me to the Bull and Mouth Inn (a great name!) and the operation of carriages on the Brighton Road and elsewhere. There is so much more to genealogy than just ancestors' names.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
