The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Hello!

I am hoping to prove/disprove a long time family tale. It was always passed down that we were descended from the Black Douglas Clan. The Couple listed in my title of my post are my 6th Great grandparents. I seem to be stuck there at the moment. I was wondering if I have any distant cousins on this forum that may be able to add details to my information. I love the stories behind the names, to me that is the fun part!

Moses Douglas
1740–1793
BIRTH ABT. 1740 • Probably in the Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland area
DEATH AFT. 1793 • Kinnego. Lurgan, Co.Armagh, Ireland.

Catherine Marsden
1745–1819
BIRTH ABT. 1745 • Ireland
DEATH 1819

From the above I come down through their son Henry Douglas, who had John, who had Robert. Robert was born n Scotland as his parents where moving to Yorkshire. Where I was born and bred!

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
