The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

A memorial inscription in Monigaff Churchyard, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, reads: "Erected by William Douglas of Montreal in memory of his father William Douglas late of Little Park who died 2nd Sept 1814 aged 73 years. And of three infant brothers. Also of his mother Margaret Campbell who died at Ayr 28th Feby 1823 aged 61 years. Also the said William Douglas who died at Montreal 11 March 1833 aged 35 years."

William, senior, was a brother of Samuel Douglas of Windsor Castle Plantation, Jamaica, in my previous.

Can anyone please offer information on William in Montreal?  Perhaps a press intimation of his death?

Bob.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
