A collection of historical and genalogical records
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

Donna,
Please contact me at bhhdesigns@yahoo.com and give me your address. The essay on the children of William b 1666 runs 18 or 20 pages and I want to send it directly to you. I need to edit it a bit because it doesn't include much on John, b 1701, William and Hannah's eldest child.

Donna, I should have recognized your name since both Mark and Kevin have mentioned you. I think Kevin has my most recent material, except my work with Joshua Douglass Jr's sons David, Daniel, Stephen and Archibald who went to Natchez MS after Joshua died in NJ in 1786. What he sends you will be the latest I've put together on the children of William b 1666 in New London. Of those children, William, b 1710, is my best candidate but until others descended from William 1666 test their DNA my conclusions will still be in some doubt. Of the children of William, b 1666 and Hannah ??, Hannah, William, Joshua, and Jonathan all are found in early NJ records. Peter left his wife, Lydia Fox, and is last seen in MD/DE, Mercy/Mary m Aaron Barber and lived in Windsor CT, John m Elizabeth Quitterfield and lived in Colchester CT and Gulford CT. Some of John's sons went to Leyden NY. No information on daughters Sarah and Anne.

So, this william Douglas is the father of Captain Aaron Douglas, 1753-1919.
I have a note that this line has a dna trace back to William Douglas, b1610.
I guess we are looking for the paper trail?
William
