DOUBLE DOOR, post 1883 - ca 1899
Giovanni Vecchia
news second half of the century. 19th-early century XX
The light wooden door covered with yellowish paint is made up of two decorated doors, in the lower part of two quadrangular panels with carvings of stylized quadrilobed elements and lozenges enriched by fillers; in the upper part, by two windows crowned by pointed arches (the one on the right; while the one on the left has no glass, but simple wooden panels). The doors are profiled by a "sawtooth" frame. The jambs develop into twin columns with foliated capitals resting on a high base and supporting cuspidate spiers. These spiers are connected by a lowered and carved arch which features dentil and lozenge frames and a series of small fretwork arches, trefoiled internally and fleur-de-lis externally. Below, the coat of arms of the Douglas-Scotti Counts emerges in relief

HISTORICAL CRITICAL NEWS
Alessio, in 1883, in the list of the ecclesiastical furnishings of the church, mentions two side doors to the main altar (those now moved to the side parts of the choir, see entry no. 18) as works by the sculptor Giovanni Vecchia, and states that the same artist was engaged in the execution of other works that were still missing. It can therefore be assumed that the doors in question, similar in taste, structure and carving to the two doors mentioned above, are the work of Vecchia himself (also author of the stalls in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament in S. Antonino in Piacenza, dated 1856 and of the restoration of the late-Gothic polyptych and of the choir of the Cathedral of Piacenza), probably executed immediately after 1883: in fact in the 1898 Inventory, are cited by the parish priest Don Alceste Scarani (Parish Archive of Rezzanello). A work of good workmanship, the doors respond to the neo-Gothic taste that characterizes the entire church and its furnishings

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
