William Wallace had had enough of the brutal invasion of our country, and 1297 saw him take a lead with Andrew Murray at the battle of Stirling Bridge to start the clearing of them out of our country. Robert Burns leaves us in no doubt about the impression Wallace made on him with the words I printed into the painting

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
