Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
I am the 6 x great-granddaughter of Lady Janet Douglas, b. c1740 in Glenbervie, Kincardineshire. Her father was Sir Robert Douglas of Glenbervie 6th Bt (1694–1770). Her daughter, Janet MacKenzie (b. 6 June 1762), married Rev. John Snodgrass (c1744 – 22 June 1722) on 6 July 1782 in Dundee, Angus, Tayside. Their 5th child was Margaret Snodgrass (b. 9 February 1790). She married Major Benjamin Sullivan in Lisbon on 15 January 1816, where Major Sullivan was in the Portuguese Services of the British Army. They are my 4 x great-grandparents. They had four children in Portugal and later emigrated as free settlers to Australia, the then colony of New South Wales, arriving in October 1828. Their first son, John Henry Sullivan, is my 3 x great grandfather.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Sir Robert Douglas of Glenbervie 4th Bt

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
