Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
My 2GGM was Mary Bell (1786-1845) h. James McMiken (1786-1862). Both died at High Creach, Girthon Parish, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. According to Sassin RS23/37/169 dated 10/11/1813 Sarah Douglass b. 1766 Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright and John Bell d. at Laggan Mullen, Scotland <1813 are Mary's parents. Two of James and Mary's children were named after the Douglas side of Mary's family: Susan Douglas McMiken (1813-1813) and Samuel Douglas McMeekin(1819-1901). I believe Mary Bell's Gparents were John and Susanna Douglass. This is where I get lost.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
If my research is correct, I can trace my ancestry to Sir Wm Douglass (1649-1695)

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
