Hi Heather,

A cousin in Winnipeg sent me a 2nd copy of The Douglas' of Jedburgh by Margaret Irene Deller. Included were some interesting papers about Douglas family line I did not have much information on. There was a letter from Dorothy Douglas nee Anderson (I think) wife of Robert Vincent Douglas who descended from Robert Edgar Douglas and then to Robert Douglas (1848 to 1934) who went to Manitoulin Island from Meaford with his brother John James Douglas (1855 to 1937). Robert and John James are brothers of my Great Grandfather Thomas Douglas (1854 to 1944). The letter and envelope are attached. It was written to Doug Butchart in Meaford in 1987. As well as her address in BC it has your name and address on it. I have since found an obituary for Ivy Mae Douglas nee Hughson with a note from you and your husband.  I would like to add your ancestry up to you on my family tree, I suspect you descend from one of the Manitoulin Douglas'. I have an online tree but I try to limit it to interested family

members. It is at swithland.org and the userID is meaford and the password is 0ntarI0 (zeroes for O's and a capital I (eye). My dad's favourite uncle was Lorne Douglas (1883 to 1959) who was a pharmacist in Sudbury from 1966 to his passing. I have fond memories of him taking me for walks from his home on Nelson St. up to the shrine. Lorne was a son of Thomas.

Thanks for your consideration and my email address is lorne.douglas@gmail.com

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
