A collection of historical and genalogical records
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

Is there a link to Paula Salmon, she married Quintin Douglas?
I note a link in another forum to the Wagner family.
William
Jens,
I have been communicating with your brother.
Please see: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/families/douglas_of_arkland.html for the latest information that I have on your ancestors.
William
I have these notes:
John Douglas of Arkland witnessed a document on 2 Jan 1607
Sasine of marriage contract between John Douglas of Arkland and Margaret Gordon, daughter of Robert Gordon of Grange dated 15 Mar 1679
Helen Douglas, the lawful daughter of John Douglas of Arkland in the parish of Penpont and his spouse Katherine Stewart, who died on 10th March 1595 . Helen Douglas was the spouse of Thomas Gordon of Crogo. John Douglas of Arkland, spouse Katherine Stewart, who died 10 March 1595, were due £248/13/4 to Lord Mourton for rent. This John Douglas had a son, also John Douglas of Arkland. He and Helen had eight siblings.
John Grierson of Capenoch's daughter and heiress Marie Grierson married John Douglas of Arkland c1643?
Marie Grierson, daughter of Elizabeth Murray and William Grierson of Bargatton, and wife of John Douglas of Arkland. (Same Marie as above?)
You have just sent me a document which indicates that William Douglas, born 6.6.1688 in Schippenbeil, is a descendant of Douglas of Arkland. This is a Kirkcudbrightshire family, mentioned in various legal documents. Many appear to have been called John, making the tracking of generations tricky.
I will have a look around and see what I can turn up.
William
Welcome to our Community Network, Jens.
William Douglas born 6.6.1688 in Schippenbeil, Poland, is supposedly the son of William Douglas, of Dundee, Scotland, as you probably know, but I have him recorded as the son of William Douglas of Achland, reputedly descended from the 5th Laird of Drumlanrig. The only Achland that I have been able to trace is/was in Wigtonshire.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else is following this line.
Yours aye,
William
