Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Through my maternal grandfather, George Douglas, who was a dentist and lived and married in Aberdeen. He married Helen Thomson. George died in 1955 and Helen in 1942. George's father was Charles, a Master Joiner who lived in Aberdeen and worked for Waring and Gillow. His first wife was Margaret Pirie and his second was Nellie Winterbottom. Margaret was my great-grandmother. She and Charles married on 1st March 1878 at Land Street Church of Scotland in Keith. Charles' parents were David Douglas and Christina Davidson. David was a shoemaker of Aberdeen.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
David Douglas, b: 29/9/1764, Lintrathen, Angus, m: Old |Machar, Aberdeenshire 23/9/1790

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
