A collection of historical and genalogical records
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

Welcome to our community, Sharon.
Sorting out the South African Douglas families is an ongoing task for me. You can find some of the previous discussions here by entering South Africa in the search box (top right).
Early settlers were John Douglas (x3), presumably not connected closely with your family, but maybe... http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/articles/john_douglas-ofsouthafrica.htm
If more comes to light, I will be in touch.
Yours aye,
William
PS I hope to be in South Africa later this year, but there will not be much time for family history research, unfortunately.
