Welcome to the Douglas Archives community network, Malcolm.

I had a quick look at your website, and noticed a link to William Douglas of Cluny. As the name did not spring to mind, I checked the Douglas Archives, and sure enough he was there - but not designated as 'of Cluny'.

So, who was he?

Well, this led me to look up Maxwell's history of the Douglas family, and there I found him. So now he has a biography in the Douglas Archives - and I have added him to Wikipedia as well.

A good mornings work - but not what I set out to do!

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
