A collection of historical and genalogical records
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

I got your message about seeking help with tracing your ancestors. I do not seem to have any details of your family in my database, but there are a couple of references to Robert Ray Douglas, or Bobby Ray Douglas, on the internet. Whether or not one of these is your father, I do not know.
To help people like myself help you, the more information you can provide, the easier it is for us to search.
Do you have any dates? Birth? Marriage?
The key is to start with your self and work back. Have you checked your own birth certificate? your fathers?
Let us know how you get on,
Yours aye,
William
