The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Thanks to blog DouglasHistory, and family genealogy.

Kicked off Wiki, Wikitree, and FTDNA. Great to be on Douglas's blog. Chief Margaret Eliott of Redheugh, whose land was gifted to the clan by "Bell the Cat" Douglas, is great not to be kicked off Douglas's blog.
Own and operate elwald.com, clancrozier.com, and gorrenberry.com. I guess they'll have to contact me to kick me off the blog.

Mark, I'm curious... what did they say? Why did they kick you off all of these platforms?

Try to respond best that I can.

Archibald Douglas, Earl of Douglas and Wigtown, Lord of Galloway, Douglas and Bothwell (c. 1330 – c. 24 December 1400), called Archibald the Grim or Black Archibald, was a late medieval Scottish nobleman.  Wikipedia

The Douglas and many with the forename Archibald (Elwald-Ellot) name own but lost a lot of land. Patrick Hepburn called Bothwell (Northumberland), Bothwell an estate own by the Douglas, like Redheugh passed to the Elwald-Ellot, by an Archibald Douglas, late 15th century.

The Armstrong rode for the Buccleuch Scott at their Castle Armstrong-Buccleuch at Langholm, the Elwald-Ellot Castle shared by the Douglas is the Hermitage. A lot of land was passed to the Scott family. The Armystrong-Armestrang-Armstrong, are a pitch in army which can not be lead but only followed. A lot of indigenous Scottish DNA in them. Being of the Conservative Society of Friends I have a tendency to be lead. Armstrong pitch-in but many claim Gilnockie as their leader, but he is a younger brother to a Thomas Armstrong on land of Billhope, eastside of Gorrenberry. The Armstrong could join in and become an border army of 3000, with the Elwald-Ellot join in they would rival the army the Kingdom of England could put together, just by people pitching-in. The American Revolutionaries did that in 1776 for a new nation.

The Scott family needed which they did to support the son of Mary Queen of Scots, James VI which became James I to retain landholding after Border Pacification. Some of the Scott land was passed toe the Ellot-Eliott of Stobs to Gib of the golden garters, land he received as a dowry for marring into the Scott of Harden family. The Larriston line did not seem to treat Buccleuch sister Jean well and Stobs were of here second and successful marriage, so a lot of land was passed through marriage.

They now have genetic-genealogy certification, and pitching in an sharing information is the way genetic genealogy is done which is found on most DNA corporate sites, except Family Tree DNA, and WikiTree. The Family Knows best is used for Mormon and Jewish influenced sites of FamilySearch, 23andMe, and Ancestry. They do not seem to kick out the 'gentiles'.

Though with Wikipedia it seems the German Wikipedia had treated me all right but to the English Wikipedia. George Fox of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) is considered to be an English decenter. With a background of instructing Engineering Computing FORTRAN 77, physics and chemistry and math at secondary level, and math at university level, writing in the English language has not been my forte.  Silencing shared knowledge like family historians-genealogists, and scientists-those of genetics, to some which can get rid of others on Family Tree DNA and WikiTree is felt to be misused. number 3. Is one does not get rid of the in-laws even if they want to do family history. 4. Is families fight and most likely both answers are correct, and 5. You do not get to pick your relatives (so say you get to pick your spouse, but I would put that in question) you are born with them.

Armstrong are a pitch-in people and Elliot soldiers of the Hermitage try at time to help them out. Since we do not have leaders, those which feel they are in roles of leaders may find us offensive and want to get rid of use.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
