A collection of historical and genalogical records

William Douglas was baptised on 13 Nov 1779 in Wicklow RC Parish Church. The address given was Kilnamanagh

Notes on his marriage and family's baptisms from microfilm CS6482 in the National Library Dublin

He married Mary Byrne on 22 Nov 1823

The following are baptism records for his children

25 Aug 1824 Robert,  13 June 1826 Ann,   18 July 1829 Thomas (my greatgrandfather)

15 Feb 1831 John,     7 Sept 1832 Denis

On Williams death cert for 9 April 1866 his occupation is given as Farmer and Barony Constable.

Thomas married Catherine Kearns in Barndarrig Catholic Chapel on 16 Nov 1868.Thomas's address is Kilnamanagh and Catherine's address is Ballinacarrig.  Her father was Pat Kearns and her mother is Brigid (nee Linehan).  Familylore suggests that the Kearns family were from the north Wexford area. In 1911 census Catherine gave Co Wexford as her place of birth They were evicted from their farm there. It is unclear when they came to the area as the valuations office record for them in Ballinacarrig is dated 1874 but they gave Ballinacarrig address on the marriage cert in 1868 and possibly in 1857 below in Cantwells.  While the Kearns family were farmers, according to familylore they were also pork butchers. Their descendants moved to Dublin in the 1920s.The families didn't maintain contact.

Cantwells Memorials of the Dead record of Kilnenor Graveyard near Ballyfad in Wexford has the following record for Kiern ? Kearns "Two headstones side by side, a) right and b) left  a) Erected by Patrick Kiern of Ballinacarrig/in memory of his beloved father/ Peter Kiern/ who died 22nd Dec 1857  aged 82 years.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
