The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

This Little Tyke is in search of the ancestors of his Great Grandmother Rachel Douglas.

We believe Douglas to be her maiden name.

Rachel (Douglas) Braitling appears in 1880 Census at her Mother-in-Law's home with husband and sons in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, USA.

Of note, George, the eldest, was born in Philadelphia or NYC while the remaining sons are born in Coudersport.

George is the elderly fellow in the picture, holding his firstborn Grandson, the Little Tyke, in his arms.

Ancestry DNA of the Little Tyke reveals that he is indeed a Braitling from this family group.  However his Douglas heritage is not so clear.

The little tyke is now older than the old man in the photo... so any assistance is appreciated.

And so, we are seeking information about

Rachel Anastasia Douglas OR Rachel Anna Douglas

Born c1850+-5

Emigrated Ireland to America c1870+-2.

First Child George Braitling born c1873+-1

Husband Charles John (Carl Johan) Braitling

Charles emigrated from Boblingen, Baden-Wurtemburg to America as a child with his mother Christina and father Jakob.

Thanks for your assistance.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
