The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Looking for a connection between the three Douglass, Thomas, William, and James, who in 1503 changed their surname to Drysdale to escape persecution, and James Drysdale, below.

My family tree shows a James Drysdale married to a Christine Curry (no dates) having five children, Henry, George, Janet, Agnes, and James Keith Drysdale. James Keith died 11/11/1917, and was married twice, first to Margaret Browne, then Mary Pearce. From the marriage with Mary Pearce,  they had three children, Ethel Margaret, Mabel Avelyn, and Douglas James Drysdale. Ethel Margaret Drysdale, b.7/20/1881, d. 5/31/1955, was born in Marylebone, London and married Garfield William Steves (b.3/4/1883, d 2/20/195400 and resided in Flushing, New York, having two children, Garfield Douglas Steve, and William Harry Steves, I am the son of William Harry Steves.

A search of Drysdales in London show many of them in the Marylebone section of London.

It would be much appreciated if anyone has the missing links for connection.

Roger ,

I honestly know of no one that has successfully been able to document their selves back to the ''Drysdale document'' , either Douglas or Drysdale .

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
