It is a few years since I delved into the Douglas families in the Tynron area.  If you do a search in the main section of the Douglas Archives, you will see a couple of families pop up.

I have a particular interest as I lived a couple of miles away in Penpont some 70 years ago, (Evidence attached!) and still have friends there.

You need to search in the glens round-about to find inter-marrying families - and the warring families.  These, mid-eighteenth century, were difficult times.

Welcome to our community, Kim

Are you sure about the double-barreled surname?  That would be unusual in the mid-19th century.

Peebles is the county town of Peeblesshire, so you would need to check that.

The more information that you can give, the better the chance of someone linking in to your family and being able to make helpful suggestions.

That being said, I do have a note that Roberta Douglas Smith was born in George Street, Peebles, Scotland on 04 Nov 1892 to William Douglas Smith and Margaret Henderson Anderson. Roberta Douglas Smith married Hugh Alexander Niven and had 7 children. She passed away on 24 Jul 1977 in Nambour, Queensland, Australia.

Margaret Henderson Anderson was born in the Manor Valley, in Peeblesshire in 1859 - a place I know well as my in-laws live there!

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
