John Scott Douglas, the Scottish textile expert who met John Morrogh in South Africa who convinced him to move to Cork to run the mill. John’s descendants still live in Cork today.
Robin, I think you know all this, but I share it for the record:
The Parsimonious Dyer : John Scott Douglas. Scottish dyeing expert , and friend of John Morrogh. They met first in South Africa.
John was head hunted for the job of converting the mill. He stayed in Cork for one year and then decided to bring his family over from Scotland. As manager of the Donnybrook mill John was well liked by the employees having a reputation for being “firm but fair”. He converted the mill from flax to worsted wools and worked until he was 90. He ran a tight ship!!! He purchased dyes from Bayer in Germany. Wastage was not tolerated!!!!
Kate, nee Griffin, married John Morrogh who owned the Donnybrook Mill. A wee history is in this note:
Below are friends Annie Galvin and Kathleen Cleary Douglas 1914. Is Kathleen John Scott Douglas's wife?
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

I have heard the door-slamming story before, so am wondering if there is a parallel discussion here somewhere.

So annoying that the two photographs on the 29th August post are no longer visible - and of course I cannot recall what they looked like.
