David,

Douglas septs: Cavan/Caven/Cavin

I am limited in how much I can enter as a reply here, so have started a new discussion on septs, and posted my response there.

Just to let you know I have been granted the 'right to bear arms' by the Canadian Heraldic Authority through the Canadian Crown and the Governor General of Canada. The final art work is now being done and when the the grant is entered in the Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada, and the official notice of the grant is published in Part I of the Canada Gazette under the title "Government House" I'll pass on the info for your interest. I was able to incorporate some of the ancestral designs and colours of the Douglas heritage and badge. I will be the first and only Douglas in Canada, so far, to receive this distinction. I would also like to point out that I have the honour of being advance from the position of Expectant to Knight in the illustrious "Equestrian, Secular and Chapterial Order of St Joachim" (established in 1755). Admiral lord Nelson was perhaps our most famous member.

That is intersting, David.

There are a couple of others searching ancestors in the north of england. It might be worth making contact.

They are:
Heather Barford and
Gavin Douglas

There is also a north west discussion group you could become involved with.

William

Who is your earliest Douglas ancestor? Is there any way we can help trace your line back? Please feel free to post any searches or questions so that others can share their knowledge with you.

Yours aye,
