- I am researching any Douglas lines in Argyllshire and the adjacent shires. My earliest known ancestor is Kenneth Douglas 1745-1804, and his father has been remembered by successive generations as having fought at Culloden on the Jacobite side. Kenneth's father is not yet identified. The Muster Roll of the Jacobite Army was compiled after the battle of Culloden by the Hanoverian Army under the command of the Duke of Cumberland, and it records just seven Douglas names. The accuracy of the Muster Roll cannot be known and should be expected to contain some errors and omissions. My Gt Gt Gt Grandmother was Mary Douglas and a child of every following generation, either male or female, has proudly borne the name of DOUGLAS.
