The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

I am looking for the family of Mary Douglas born 1645 in Scotland and married to John Kimbrough.  I have only the name of Robert Douglas and the clues are so conflicting.  I hope someone has something regarding this family..... They had three children in Scotland before coming to America.

Thank you...

she is my 7th G G mother

Thanks,

As you say, the evidence linking Mary to Robert Douglas, born 21st July 1611 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and who died in 1692 in Maryland, is thin!

I saw specualtion some time ago that Robert was the twin brother of William Douglas, usually stated to be born in 1610.

I consider both William and Robert Douglas to be 'brick walls'.  But some claim Robert to be descended from the Douglases of Lochleven.

Yours aye,

William

Well thank you... that is more than I have every read or heard.  I will be sending my fathers DNA in to FamilyTreeDNA and hoping that there is a group with the descendants of these Douglases.  I will also be in Scotland end of April for a month hoping to shed some light on this mystery, until then, I continue to search.

Thank you William..

A visit to Lochleven Castle will not add anything to an ancestor search, but who knows, you might reconnect spiritually! It is well worth a visit - on a dry day.

Perfectly said!!!!.. your right... so the mystery continues... but to have some spiritual connections.. would be absolutely perfect.  Thank you .... I know that my journey will not uncover many stones but to stand in the places of my ancestors.. that is priceless.

Thank you William,

Sheri

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
