The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

This branch of the family has been an off and on area of research for some time. However, I was recently given a series of photographs of a pictorial representation of the 'Genealogical Tree of the family of Badds' (sic), and am in the process of verifying some of the data.

One thing that has come to light is the suggestion, made in a couple of websites, and in this tree, is that John Douglas of Baads was MP for Hinton, in Wiltshire. In the tree, which is dated 1823, it says he is the 'current' MP. However, there is no mention of him in the list of MPs in Wikipedia.

Wkipedia does list a John St Ledger Douglas as MP for Hindon in 1768. St Ledger is one of the family names.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

An extract of the tree is attached

A couple of years ago, a msesage was posted on genealogy.com's forum seeking information about Campbell Dalrymple:

Looking for info on Margaret Douglas, born 1732, St. Andrew, Fife, Scot. died 17 Apr 1799. She married Colonel Campbell Dalrymple abt. 1751. They moved to Guadalupe, Caribbean when Colonel Campbell Dalrymple became Governor in 1763. Their four children are as follows;

Captain James Dalrymple married Anne Gascoyne
Colonel George Dalrymple married Martha W. Miller
Lt. Colonel Hew Dalrymple married Marianne Straker
Margaret Dalrymple married Captain Alexander Duncan

Working on the Douglas of Baads line, I have found it!

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
