A collection of historical and genalogical records
I have provided a limited mapping service for the genealogy database for some years. However, Google now charges for this.
Legacy, my desktop software provider, is in negotiations with Bing in an attempt to overcome similar issues, but meanwhile no new map entries can be made.
Meanwhile, TNG, on which my web database works, is also making changes as part of the latest upgrade.
Unless I sign up with a fee based account, I will be unable to provide a mapping facility.
My maps showed places that feature in, for example, births, deaths and marriages, and clicking on the pin connected with those who had been born, got married or died at that location.
The map charges are based on a per click basis (I think!), but as I would have no control over how users would use that facility, I would have no control over the fees (I think).
Has anyone experience of Google mapping? What charges might I expect? is it worth providing? Where does the money come from?
William, instead of providing the mapping thing (at a fee) maybe you could post a link to somewhere else that might have that place mapped , like maybe Wikitree, or any site that would just display a map instead of google.
