Dr. John Cuppage Douglas was a son of Surgeon William Douglas and Margaret Cuppage. Dr. John Cuppage Douglas was b. 14 June 1778 in Lurgan where his father was practicing medicine. He married, 13 Jan 1817 at Lisburn, Elizabeth Fulton, dau of Joseph Fulton and Ann Graham. Dr John Douglas was associated with the School of Midwifery in Dublin.

Elizabeth's sister, Anne, married Christopher Meade, Esq., and died July, 1862, leaving issue,
Frank, Q.C., who married Caroline, daughter of G. Greer, Esq., and has issue,
Francis Barrington ;
Joseph, who married Bertha, daughter of Guy Lloyd, Esq. ;
Annie, wife of Ven. John Orson Oldfield, archdeacon of Elphin ;
Ellen ;
Emily, who married the Rev. Mr. Strean ; and
Bessie.

Annie and John Oldfield's daughter, Elizabeth, married Rev Arthur Hyde, Canon of Elphin.
Their son, Douglas Hyde was the first President of Ireland.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
