George Drysdale

DEATHS. 14 September 1844

On the 21st August, drowned while bathing in the Danube. at Vienna, George Drysdale, son or the late Sir William Drysdale, of Pittenchar. Fileshire; in his 19th year.

Sir William Drysdales son George was educated at Edinburgh Academy where George dropped out of Glasgow University to see the sights on foot returning after spending two years in Hungary

Before any one jumps off a roof, during this two years his family was under the impression he had drowned in the Danube in Vienna as was reported, even though this death did not take place, It was a reality for his family members to cope with until his return.

Drysdale, George (1824–1904), freethinker and advocate of contraception, was born at 8 Royal Circus, Edinburgh, on 27 December 1824, the fourth son of the city treasurer and tory leader on Edinburgh council, Sir William Drysdale (1781–1843), who was concerned with sanitary reform
