Hi Everyone,Thanks to Seth Douglas, and this site, we have this photo of Walter Michael Aubrey Douglas (Barnes before his name change in 1877), whose dates were 1846 - 1884. As we know, upon his…Continue
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?

Thank you very much Ben; that’s great!
I saw the portrait of WMAD on the dining room wall when I visited the Morrinsville farm back in 1992 and it was still there when I last visited in 1999. The farm has since been sold and Ross Douglas (son of Roy Douglas passed away in 2011). I have no idea who has the portrait now. I was told there were a heap of photos there, but I never got the chance to see them.
BTW, I have been sent some info about Juliana saying:
“Juliana Catherine Spiller is one of 22 children. When she was a young girl she was ‘Lady Companion’ to Princess Alexander, Danish wife of Queen Victoria’s son Edward. Julian was the first white woman to set foot in the Kimberly Diamond Mines. She is descended [directly] from Charlemagne Holy Roman Emperor right through to the French Royal Family. Her grandfather [mother’s father] was the last French Earl of Crave. Her mother was an only child and the title became extinct. There are no gaps and puzzles in Juliana’s Family Tree. She comes from a Kentish family.”
This is a direct quote from the info I was sent.
Ben, you sent me a private message with the photo of a lady. It has vanished!
Can you please resend, or preferably, publish it publicly?
William

Georgina Honora Barnes was the eldest of the family. She was born in 1868 and of course would have known about the Barnes families as well as her 5 brothers and a sister, seven of them Barnes, at the time, until the change of names, from Barnes to Douglas. Thomas was the only one to have the Barnes name remain within his name. Georgina Honora Barnes, born 1868.Robert Barnes, born 1870. George Barnes, born1871.Thomas Barnes, born1874. Edward Rodolph Walter Barnes (Uncle Charlie) born 1875.Walter Aubrey Barnes and Florence Caroline Mary Aluschia Barnes. You will find those names on the full page with big black circles with numbers. Walter Michael Aubrey Douglas, black circle (8) and Juliana Catherine Spiller, black circle (9). Georgina Honora, black circle (76). They are reference numbers, remembering that I have just over 800 names and there are still a lot that I haven?t been able to get from people. However, Honora married Major Cotton first time and then Mr. Mc. Cartney-Filgate. Honora died giving birth, in Ireland. Major Cotton had 2 daughters that I know of, who were Bunnie and Elizabeth. Elizabeth Cotton never married and was living in India. Remembering that Major Cotton, being in the Forces would have been in India too at some stage. Bunnie (Cotton) Gwynne-Hughes (Honora?s daughter) is probably who Ben Giffard is referring to, who may have married for the second or third time a Mr. Giffard. Anyway, time will tell, if Ben Giffard supplies the information.
I would be interested to lesrn more about the Barnes side, I know he took his mothers mame.douglas.jpg
Also Georgina Honora Douglas, my cousin Seth has a lot of info that would help you.
Thanks Lilian
