San Fulco Scotti, former provost of Sant'Eufemia from 1194 to 1208, was bishop of Piacenza and was transferred to Pavia, the new seat of his bishopric, in 1216. He was extremely devoted to Santa Giustina, as attested by the painting, commissioned as part of the neo-Gothic renovation of Sant'Eufemia, conducted by Camillo Guidotti from 1898 to 1905. The solution of the painting, in a purist key, is therefore in close connection with the destination of the "neo-medievalized" church. In this regard, it should be noted that Sidoli, who sets the representation in a markedly Romanesque scene (for Cerri it is the Cathedral), at the time of the execution of this work characterized his pictorial production with a pointillist sign (it is from 1907 his participation in the exhibition of the Italian pointillists in Paris). The reference for this painting may have been Francesco Ghittoni's Sant'Opilio for the Episcopal Seminary. The painting was restored by the parish priest Mons. Pietro Casella (communication from the parish priest, Mons. Pietro Casella, 1992)
