He is a descendant of Alexander Douglass who was born about 1722 in Ardclach Parish, Nairn, Scotland
(Probably only one s at time of birth)
I wonder if the following is true?
Alexander Douglass was a Scottish soldier who served in the British Army during the mid-18th century. He was born around 1722 in Ardclach Parish, Nairn, which is located in the northern part of Scotland. Not much is known about his early life, but he is recorded as having fought in several significant battles, including the Battle of Culloden in 1746. After his military service, he settled in Virginia and became a prominent landowner and politician. He died in 1792 and is buried in what is now known as the Douglass Cemetery in Winchester, Virginia.
That worked for me. Thank you.
He now has his entry in the Douglas Archives.
I didn't see his bookplate or any info. So, I thought it a good jumping off point. My apologies if I missed it. Like I had missed the James Douglas Bio. to go with his bookplate / photo.
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
