Thank you James for the Input .I ran across the surname James in the same time frame twice after posting this , and just had to ask .

Russell I ran across the same document several years ag. It has been said that Edward Douglass and two brothers Joseph and James settled in Virginia together. However Edward's son also named James said that his father stated he only had one brother. My take on this document is that it names Edward Douglass and a Joseph James, relationship currently not known. This document does date from the period of time that Edward Douglass is thought to have been in that area of Virginia.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
