Glad you are enjoying the thread. Yes, I can't say that I understand the science, either. Its more based on reference materials. Like so much of history?

William, thank you for the info & notes. I hear what you are saying & I realize that the Mario Scotus story mentions, "mythical origins & legends" in various sources. I am just building upon info already found here on TDA & other sources. Besides playing the devils advocate, I personally, believe there is a connection from the Douglas, to the Mariscotti & on to the Marescot. The Ruspoli / Mariscotti Family themselves, claim, the Douglas connection. But hey, what do I know? You are far more of an authority on all things Douglas, than I. Figured, I would just add the items I've found not already represented here. I may add a bit more, just so it is all located here, on this site. As often, it can be difficult re-locating specific items. Thanks

Marescot: the family of the lords of Thoiry could be a branch youngest of the Marescotti family of Bologna established in France at the end of the XVth century. This remains very poorly substantiated; even if the Italian Marescotti themselves recognized the French Marescots as close relatives for simple reasons of interest.

Linking the Marescotti family of Bologna to the Douglas family is also tenuous - but is included in the Douglas Archives because it is a possibility

The armorial with the apparent Douglas three stars is assigned to  'épouse de François de Marescot'.
There are several men of that name, but no indication in the linked document that I could find of which one this refers to.

Three stars are also used by the Moray family.

To my understanding, these are from the Italian, Mariscotti family. Having migrated from Italy to France. A result of the political, splintering during the Guelph & Ghibelline wars. Noteworthy, that on this COA there are 3 stars on a blue field. Thus far, I do not know any history of interactions between the Douglas & Mariscotti. Could be an interesting intersection?
