Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
My GGG Grandfather, James Kirk, was indented to Lord William Robert Keith Douglas. He was sent to Tobago to work on Lord Douglas' sugar estates in January 1825. He went to Tobago on one of the Douglas sailing vessels. I would like to know more about their relationship; see if there are any indenture records, and see if their are any ship manifests that list James Kirk and who may have traveled with him to Tobago.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
none - just a business relationship with Lord William Robert Keith Doughlas
Tags/keywords - used to help people find you
James Kirk.

Welcome to the group, Arleen.

As you will know,  Lord William Robert Keith Douglas inherited his estates on Tobago from his father-in-law, Walter Irvine.  I regret that I know no more than that, though I am sure other will.

I am interested in your reference to Douglas sailing vessels.  Do you have any more information on these ships?  Who was the owner?

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
