Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
My Douglas line: I am not sure of my ancestral line, but I know that my Douglas family came to Jamaican in the late 1800’s and after purchasing land in St. Ann Jamaica they went on to name it Douglas Castle, we were told as children that it was named after Castle Douglas in Scotland where we have our ancestors.
My Grandmother: Daisy Maud Douglas born 08/08/1917 St Anns.
My Grandmother’s Father: (Boris) Stephen Adulphus Douglas born Apr 9, 1888 - Sterling St Ann, Jamaica
Parents: William Douglas and Justina Douglas (born Downs)
Siblings Ada Matilda, Martin Luther, Nancy Ann, Samuel, David, Eustace Benjamin, Wilford, Edward and Joseph
William 'Captain' Douglas was born 3rd September 1858, in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland. The 7 brothers were the sons of John Douglas, born 1823, and his wife, Christina Mcleod.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
