This will be the mysterious John Douglas:
John Douglass was kidnapped when a baby and brought to Virginia. The
exact date of his birth is not known, but from circumstances it seems he
was born about 1700 or a little earlier. He was born in Scotland and was
in line for an Earldom.

That is how I replied to a query a few years back.

There are variations on the story.  If you can hang on til the website is back up on its new server, you will be able to search for them.

And maybe get back to me?

Welcome to our group, Lisa.

The elusive Eunice Ratcliffe appears in a number of discussions. Here is one of them: http://douglashistory.ning.com/profiles/comment/list?attachedToType=User&attachedTo=21jlhbcnxlz2s&commentId=3482022%3AComment%3A5409

Yours aye,

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
