Hi Roger,

Just to tidy up a few loose ends, it seems that your genealogical 'brick wall' arose from the fact that
you were looking for a James Drysdale married to Christina Currie when in fact it was a John Drysdale
she was married to.

John was born on 4th May 1806 in Barony,Lanark, his parents were John Drysdale and Mary Scott.

John and Christina Currie were married on 31-5-1829 at Paisley middle Church Renfrewshire.

According to his son James' 1878 marriage record (with Mary Pearce) John was an Evangelist and in the 1851 Scottish Census he was recorded as a Catholic Apostolick Priest, visiting the Scott family [relatives?] in Edinburgh while his wife Christina stayed at home in Elgin looking after their six children.

His Evangelist calling seems to have kept him on the move, as may be seen by the birth locations of his six children - Paisley, Montrose, Edinburgh & Perth. Also it is implied by Christina's 1851 census record (she calls herself a Dyer's wife) that he appears to have had a day job as a Dyer.

Info from 1851 Scottish Census in Elgin and Edinburgh:

Christina Drysdale [nee Currie] aged 46 and family - scottish 1851 census at Elgin - Children - John, Jane, Alfred, George, Henry & James

John Drysdale aged 43, Catholic Apostolic Priest, born Glasgow - a Visitor during Scottish 1851 census at Edinburgh

I think that's all - 'Job Done'

Best regards & good luck with your research

Hi again

I've just found the 1868 marriage record for James Drysdale with Margaret Brown and this confirms
that James' father was called John Drysdale (not James) and his mother was Christina Currie.

Ref: James Drysdale marriage to Margaret Brown in 1868 at Glasgow Father John Drysdale Mother Christina Currie

James drysdale marriage to Margaret Brown 1868 Glasgow - Scotlandspeople:

Also Mary Emeline Drysdale was born in 1870 to James Drysdale & Margaret Brown

I'm still checking things out

Best regards

Hi Roger,

I've turned up a couple of sources on your Drysdale relatives which may be of interest:

19-10-1878 marriage of James Drysdale Widower of Marylebone to Mary Pearce of Hove at Hove in Sussex. Father of James is John Drysdale (deceased) Evangelist?.

1905 - Ethel Drysdale neice age 22 - New York State Census Manhattan.

I'm still checking things out, but will now also look for a John Drysdale as James Keith Drysdale's father and will let you know if/when something turns up

Best regards

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
