Generation 4

Azariah Hunt, son of John Hunt (generation 3) and Mary Tankred, married Anne Willett, daughter of Captain Willett, Gent., and Anne Stringer. Upon the death of Azariah Hunt Anne (Willet) Hunt married Thomas Hunt (Generation 4), son of Thomas Hunt and Smart Tankred, sister of Mary Tankred who married John Hunt, Mary Hunt's grandfather. Children of Azariah Hunt and Ann Willet are Mary Hunt and Elishe Hunt.

Will of Azariah Hunt written 14 March 1735/36 and proved 13 April 1736/Wills and Inventories, XXVI-R, 1733-1740, page 152. To wife, Anne during her life the plantation whereon I now live, from the mill road to the road where the branch crosses it, along the North side of the branch to the head of my land, and, then, to my daughter, Mary Hunt. To my daughter, Elishe Hunt, the other part of my home land, my water mill, and all my land on Hogg Island. My land in Accomack be sold to pay my debts. Residual legatees- my wife and two daughters. Witt: William Willett, George Willett, and John Nelson.

Generation 5

Mary Hunt, daughter of Azariah Hunt and Mary Tankred, never, married. Will written 19 Dec 1755 and proved 8 February 1757, Wills and Inventories XXIX-R, #21, 1754-1760, page 269. To sister, Elishe Hunt, my plantation and for want of her heirs to my two sisters, Smart and Sarah Hunt. To Azariah Hunt, Obediah Hunt, Smart Hunt, and Sarah Hunt, 40 s each. Residual legatee, Elishe Hunt, and for want of her heirs, to my two brothers and two sisters, Azariah Obediah, Smart and Sarah Hunt. Father-in-Law, Thomas Hunt, Executor. Witt: James Elliott, William Webb, Anne Benthall.

Notice that Azariah Hunt is sometimes confused with Thomas Hunt (Generation 3) brother of John Hunt who was grandfather of Mary Hunt. and whose eldest son was named Azariah Hunt. who had the same given name. Elishe is her sister, Yet she speaks of the children of Thomas Hunt (Generation 4) and his wife, Ann Willet, as if they were really her brothers and sisters. When one studies these families closely one sees that Mary Hunt was referring to her double first cousins. I happen to descend from Mary's "brother", Obediah Hunt. Azariah Hunt, father of Mary Hunt, married Ann Willet, daughter of Captain William Willet and Ann Stringer. Upon the death of Azariah Hunt (Generation 4), Mary Hunt's mother, Ann Willet, married Thomas Hunt (Generation 4) who was an executor in the will of Captain Willet.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
