I am working in Ancestry.com on my ancestors from Scotland and have reached an impasse. I have reached an ancestor named Sir William Douglas The Bold (1243 - 1298) who is said to have died in the Tower of London  or Sir William Douglas of Hermiston (1243 - 1300). I have found conflicting information about a son, James Douglas. Some sites point to this James as The Black Douglas (1286-1330) and some point to James Douglas of Hermiston (1280-1323). 'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
