My earliest known ancestor was James Douglas living in Sedgwick, Maine.  I found someone's research saying his father was William Douglas, married to Janet Witherspoon.  I have not proven that.  That is one fact I would like to prove.  He married Margaret Elliot in 1731 in Maine.  He was born in Plainfield, Connecticut on 20 May 1711.  I think he lived most of his life in Maine.  He died on 20 April 1753 in Topsham, Sagadahoc, Maine.  He had 7 children.

Interesting conflict -- I had my brother's DNA tested and most of the matches were named GORDON.  That is another thing I would like to get an answer for.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
