The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

My wife's lineage in America traces back to John Forrester Forsyth Forrest 1524-1573,

in Scotland, whose spouse is listed as Lady Elizabeth Christian Douglas on a few thousand

trees on Ancestry. A couple more thousand trees including this site list her marriage to

Sir Alexander Falconer . There are several variations :Elizabeth Christina, Christina,

Christian etc., but DOB for all variations is (1525-1587). The sites also are split on parents:

Many trees and this site list her parents as Sir Archibald Douglas (1508-1570) & Lady

Agnes Keith (1503-1588), Others list parents as Lord Edmund Howard (1503-1538) &

Lady Joyce Colpepper (1480-1531) with no explanation of why there is a Lady Douglas

in the tree. I am a rookie researcher and would greatly appreciate any help with

clarifying this issue.

thanks!

Sir Archibald Douglas, 2nd of Glenbervie (1508-1570) married Lady Agnes Keith (1503-1588).  They appear to have had a large family with daughters Elizabeth and Christian/Christina.

Elizabeth Douglas married Sir Alexander Falconer of Halkerton (d 10.11.1587)
and
Christian Douglas married (mcrt 1555) Alexander Irvine, younger of Beltie

Which looks like your ancestor?

William

My collaborator on the Tree over here says it's Christian Christina Douglas, who did marry

Alexander Irvine but was first married to John Forrest(er) Forsyth. Date of birth she says from

Wikepedia was 1824,  saw tree's  on "my heritage" that collaborate most of this but had 1525-1587

which seem to be Elizabeth's info that has somehow been mixed collectively to identify both girls.

Marriage to John Forrest(er) Forsyth appears to also be 1546. Saw one tree that had Falconer/

Irvine marriages, again a mix of info.  If you see anything else that might help please let me know

and thank you for your help! Have to go to work now! If you have a source you can use over there

check out John Forrest(er) Forsyth 1524-1573, children Marion Forrest Forsyth,  1544-1640,

David Forrest (Deforsyth) 1546-1588, William Alison aka Robert F. Forrest 1550-1609. See who

the spouse is?

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
