Alexander Douglass of Lynn, Massachusetts (originally Alastair MacDougall of Scotland) was taken prisoner in the 1650 Battle of Dunbar and sent to Massachusetts as an indentured servant. He left many Douglass descendants in New England and elsewhere, including Capt. Samuel Douglass of Mass. and N.H. and his brother Phineas Douglass. 'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
