The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Major James Douglas of Springwoodpark was a distant cousin of my Great grandfathers. His wife was definitely not Dutch.

It was my greatgrandfathers  greatgrandfather the Lt General Robert Douglas who married a Dutch lady ( lady Helena de Brauw) He was the son of Sir George Douglas of Friarshaw and brother to the first Douglas of Springwoodpark.

Justine,

Good to hear from you again.

Interestingly (for me!), I do not have this line in the genealogy database.  Something I must correct.

I know of General Robert, one of several General Roberts who often confuse me, and his Dutch wife.

Where do you find the reference to Major James, whom I claim is married to a Dutch lady? I have had a quick look, and cannot find the reference.

Yours aye,

William

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
