A collection of historical and genalogical records
Hello From Australia,
I have established lineage back to Jhone Drysdale born abt 1560 in Aloa clackmannan he may have been an illegitimate son of
B:7 Sept 1503 Glenbervie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
D:29 September 1570 Buried Glenbervie Cemetary Kincardinshire.
I am trying to establish the connection to Thomas Douglas who died in early may 1503 in the parish of Dryfsdale near Lockerbie and his three sons Thomas, William and James who on 20th May 1503 went to battle with the neighbouring Johnstones who were trying to divert a watercourse. 14 of 20 Johnstones died and the family fled to the shot of Haugh in Dollar and changed their names to DRYSDALE. I can find no records of Marriages and issue for the three sons nor can I trace the father Thomas Douglas other than a grave 12th May 1503 in Dryfsdale Stirling.
I have established a large tree on ancestry being Christopher Drysdale Family tree but have a gaping hole from Thomas back and the three sons going forward.
Any help please.

I would suggest to read any number of Johnstone histories available online - look at the enemies records .
There are some family histories here:
https://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/Septs/drysdale.html
And a couple of hundred Drysdales are listed here:
https://www.douglashistory.co.uk/famgen/search.php?mylastname=drysd... Make sure that you get the full link, ending with page=1.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
