The Douglas Archives

A collection of historical and genalogical records

Hello All-- Been a member here for awhile but never posted or did anything so here it is. A new day!

My DOUGLAS side is based in Virginia (Northern Neck)----and the people who work on this side are all stuck int eh same place. SO here it goes---

RANDAL(L) DOUGLAS(S), Sr. died about 1730 in Richmond County.

We know he had three sons---John Douglas born 1701 in St. Stephens Parish and Died in 1778

Randal(l) Douglas (s) born 1703  no death date

Thomas Douglas born 1706

Their mother was Elizabeth ???? who died about 1709in New Farham Parish

We know he arrived sometime between 1655 and 1705 and never located his name on any registers

He is named in the will of RICE WILLIAMS

His sons --John and Randall were sent to serve with Thomas Wiliams and his wife Frances

In 1722 Randall witnessed a property sale between Francis Settle and Rice & Mary Williams

That is where we are-----

Richard covington. Yes. Please contact me via ancestry

Jennifer Drechen,

Would consider investigate.

William Ronald Douglas
Birth 1666
Kilmore Armagh Ireland
Hamilton family.

The name could have been;

William Randal Douglas. Middle names are for landholders, which would settle Virginia Colony.

My family migrated from Tyrone 1610 to Co. Fermanagh, and Armagh, on Hamilton land. Douglas married Hamilton. Have Rush line from Suffolk in Virginia in 1635.

Whoa. Where did you find this?

Using OpenOffice, ScreenHunter 5.0 (portable), and IrfanView 4.0 32 bit freeware, and Windows 11, along with named.pubilcprofiler.org, peopleofthebritishisles.org and therjhuntercollection.com, with screen capturing, exporting sometimes to OpenOffice, and more ScreenHunter, screen capturing, with graphics software IrfanView, overlaying text and graphics, produced then upload the above graphic.

Also do svg graphics. If you google 'Clan Crozier', then click on 'blue and white' shield it will show the author. Been kicked off Wikipedia, though the Douglas Clan seems to put up with me.

Was able to save from English Wikipedia;

https://electricscotland.com/webclans/atoc/clancrozier.pdf

Alastair McIntyre, admin of ElectricScotland. knew of the genealogical research my father did. He's Canadian, and those Canadians seem to tolerate most anyone.

Clan Crozier seems to put up with me also though my many great is Clementis Hobs, i.e. Clement Crozier of Gladstanes land of Stobbs, sister's son Robert Elliott. Remember people can not choose their ancestors. Even in Ulster he seem to be noted as one of the most notorious thiefs in Liddesdale. At least he left a lot of genealogical some call criminal records.

Became Co-Admin of Argyll to NC Colony.

Where I lived within couple of centuries the Navajo people adopted surnames. Gaelic speakers also adopted surnames. If they are of the same DNA base living on the same island, to have names to differentiate, families they would adopt different names. If a border Johnston moved in and married them, they may acquire that name. People of the British Isles DNA study showed migration to Co. Tyrone, Ireland, being Gaelic Scots a dialect of Gaelic Irish they could easily fit in. During Border Pacification, my many great Dand (Andrew) 1607 was banquist from both Kingdoms, moved to Tullykelter, Co. (Maguire) Fermanagh, Ireland, south of the Anglican Hamilton, Castle Monea, on a Somerville fortified estate of Tullikelter. County Fermanagh-Tyrone Anglican married the Irish. Genetically when I dad took me to see Nixon running for president against Kennedy he had black Irish hair. With Douglas you have a 'black', and 'red' Douglas likely by the hair coloration. The Irish say the red comes from the Vikings. It may be felt a little illegitimacy, as I understand with the 'red' Douglas. Red hair runs both sides of my family, more concentrated in the southern Appalachians, and east Nova Scotia (new Scotland), where the Stobbs Eliott had their impact including Colonial North Carolina. The family always knows much more than your do about their history. Dad would record what he received and try to prove without much luck that his ancestors were incorrect. The one closer to the target are the ones which hit the bull's eye.

People who are looking for family information realize who they are asking know less but are looking for a different perspective. Give a lead the top genealogist already has taken, the non-genealogist will avoid looking into it.

Been the Union-Jack Wiki kicked me of so being helped from those German speaking people.

They still laugh at sending us as slaves to America.

Those Russians are helping though:

Several things here. We have no record of the death of Randal Douglas, Sr., his wife Elizabeth, or their sons Randal, Jr. and Thomas. We have many records in Northumberland County, Virginia (adjacent to Richmond County) for son John Douglas, land deeds, LWT, inventory. We don't know when Randal, Sr. arrived in Richmond County, if he was born in the colonies, emigrated from Scotland, or moved to Virginia from another area. There were people with the Douglas surname in Richmond and Northumberland Counties as early as 1655 and there were some in the area when Randal Douglas, Sr. was living there. There are no records of any kind that link them. Unless there is a clear record of a Randal (Randale) Douglas(s) leaving the British Isles and/or entering the colonies we are out of luck. Working backward to find an earlier mention of Randal in colonial records has also been fruitless. I think he was dropped off by aliens!

Aliens!!! Hahahahha. Could he have been a jocobite? Or are my dates wrong? Name changed?

Don't you think that sometimes? I do. Like I said, I have found no records for Randal Douglas in any early American colony or any British immigration records. There is a record somewhere, but it must be buried as deep as he is.

Randal is an unusual name for a Scot, but perhaps he was Randolph?
If baptised Randal, then I would guess born in the colonies.

I do have the following on my list of early arrivals:

  • Douglas, Randal. Arrived in Virginia c1700. By his wife Elizabeth, he had John Douglas born 1701 NorthumberlandVirginia, Randal Douglass born 1703 and Thomas Douglas born 1706. All three were out into servantude at one point (sic).

But I have no evidence.

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
