A collection of historical and genalogical records
Good evening...
My goals here are to find my family's roots... To know which part of Scotland they were from... To understand what brought them to Canada... Ultimately, to know who my family is.
So many unanswered questions.
My cousin and I long to know about the essence of blood that runs in our veins
Where should I start looking?
What should I do?
Douglas descendants, please guide me through this journey...

The first step is to identify the earliest Douglas in your ancestry. But as you probably know little about him or her, we may need to come forward a bit to find someone whose details have been recorded more fully. Share all the details of this person that you know, places, dates, events, etc, so that someone else can possibly see a connection.
If two brothers emigrated together, it is possible that the other brother's family have done the work, so search sideways as well as up and down.
I hope that gets you started/
Yours aye,
William
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
