A collection of historical and genalogical records
Welcome to our forum, Christine.
Norman was an enormous contributor to Douglas family research, some of which appears in the Douglas Archives.
I note that Alan is recorded as ' electrical engineer in Glasgow; 'Younger of Dundarroch', in 1989'. I have a feeling that I had a root around for him some years ago but made no progress, but today I find this obituary:
Peacefully after a short illness, on Friday 6th September 2024, at the Western General Hospital, in the loving care of his wife, Sue.
Gordon, much loved dad of Alison, Caroline, step sons Matthew and Adam, grandad of Lewis and Orla, dearly loved brother of Katrina and Sheena, a dear brother-in-law, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed.
There appear to be some family names here:

This would seem to be the person that you are looking for.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this news.
Yours aye,
William
The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
