A collection of historical and genalogical records
I note, Robin, that you are in South Africa. I am working on that 'branch' of the family. You can find my notes here: http://www.douglashistory.co.uk/history/families/douglas_in_south_africa.html#
Any help that you can give would be very welcome.

Despite the good clues, I have not found your ancestors. There were a number of Douglases who were at Waterloo, so it is difficult to follow up without a first name.
I have a note of a Arthur Colin Douglas, born 1908 died 1983 buried Tarrawingee, Victoria. He was married to Juliet "Judy" Meryon (1911-2002). They are buried together in Tarrawingee, Victoria. They are parents of Jane and Leigh and grandparents Of Hugo, Clare and Andrew. Any connection?

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
