Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
Archibald Douglas of South Carolina, is my husbands g,g,g,g,g, grandfather, (or so the family tree indicates). We had very little information until the internet. What surprises me is the family resemblance to portraits and the Douglass temperament as described by the history. Never say no to a Douglass. Hahaha. Happy to say hi to any cousins!
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
Phoebe and Rebecca Douglass, and I think their father was Archibald.

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.
Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.
Professions also help.
'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
