James David Douglass b.1723 d.1793 in the Virginia territory. I believe he was married to Hannah Houston. So far, all of the Douglass' that I've found have originated in the SE part of the US. He was the father of John William Douglass who died at the Battle of Blue Licks in Kentucky

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.
