Profile Information

Which Douglas line are you researching? Dates and places help making connections.
James Douglas born in Scotland 1797, exact location unknown. Died 1867 in Drumallroney, county Down, Northern Ireland. He was a shoemaker as well as his six sons. Son Joseph Douglas born 1841, married Mary Jane Henning in 1863. They immigrated to the U.S. in the 1870’s. I’m struggling to find where in Scotland James was born.
Who is your earliest known Douglas ancestor?
James Douglas 1797

Welcome to our forum, Tracie.

I was immediaely drawn to looking for your ancestor in Perthshire. I don't know why, but I found this:

Wrong generation, I know, but there may be something behind that?

I will dig around a bit.

Yours aye,

William

Making conections

The more information you can give about the people you mention, the more chance there is of someone else connecting with your family.

Dates and places of births, deaths and marriages all help to place families.

Professions also help.

'My great-grandmother mother was a Douglas from Montrose' does not give many clues to follow up! But a bit of flesh on the bones makes further research possible. But if we are told who she married, what his profession was and where the children were baptised, then we can get to work.

Maybe it is time to update the information in your profile?
